The mission of the Department of Education is to elevate the teaching profession by educating the next generation of teachers. We achieve this mission through:

Measures of our success toward meeting our goals include the following objective data:

  • 100% job placement of Master of Arts in Teaching candidates since 2016
  • 93% or higher pass rate on all New York State Teacher Certification Exams
  • 93% 5-year persistence rate among alumni in the field

To continually improve upon our teacher education model, the programs have recently integrated the following support for graduate candidates and alumni:

  • 15-hour seminar on diversity and inclusion
  • 10-hour workshop series on the job market
  • An annual alumni event with professional development opportunities

技术 is a cross-cutting theme in all Clarkson Master of Arts in Teaching courses. Candidates are continually expected to use technology in service to their curriculum design and instruction with a focus on modeling and teaching effective applications of technology to students. ED 560 Modern Teacher weaves together the latest trends in the field of teaching with the impact technology is having on the field. All students prepare and present screencasts, 万事皆, and a variety of different classroom-ready applications. 除了课程作业, all candidates complete a full-year teaching residency during which they are specifically evaluated on their effective use of technology as a teaching and learning tool.

In addition to the formal coursework, candidates write daily lesson plans throughout their full-year residency. The required lesson plan format asks candidates to apply their learned teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students. Candidates' mentors and university supervisors read and provide feedback on all lesson plans.
